Expedia, Inc. is looking for a Marketing Director for its hotels.com brand in Latin America who will be responsible for developing, executing and measuring the business and marketing strategy in-market. The position will report directly to the General Manager for hotels.com Latin America.
It will be based in Sao Paulo at Expedia Inc.’s regional offices in the Itaim Bibi neighborhood.
Job Description:
The Marketing Director will own the hotels.com business in Latin America. He/she will be in charge of meeting or exceeding the business targets set by the company through the development, execution and measurement of the company’s brand and marketing activities for Latin America. He/she will create an integrated business and marketing strategy to serve as a backbone to a robust marketing implementation program.
Our Marketing Director will be responsible for directing and measuring all advertising, media and market research initiatives for the brand in all of Latin America. The Marketing Director will act as the lead contact for all media, creative and research agencies across a fully integrated multimedia platform which includes TV, radio, print, online and new media. He/she will guide the planning and buying process to ensure complete alignment with overall brand strategy.
Additionally, the Marketing Director will be required to manage and develop the group of Marketing Managers that oversee each sub-region.
Objectives:
Achieve the Gross Booking (GBV) goals, as set by the Company, within the marketing efficiency limits.
Increase traffic, transactions, sales and conversion.
Increase the market share.
Increase top-of-mind awareness, purchase intent and consumer loyalty for hotels.com offerings.
Develop a highly-efficient, highly-motivated, high-performance team off marketing professionals, within diverse offices, geographies and Latin American cultures.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Own the marketing-driven Latin American P&L for hotels.com.
Meet or exceed the GBV targets within the marketing efficiency targets.
Deliver on agreed-upon net margin goals.
Marketing strategy: formulate a solid positioning, target audience and go-to-market strategy based on consumer understanding and current market conditions.
Oversee the definition and implementation of our brand value proposition, customer communications, and acquisition and retention strategies for Latin America.
Develop and gain approval for the brand and marketing expense budget.
Continuously monitor and maintain overall control and verification mechanisms across all marketing activities.
Overall management and optimal spending of the marketing budget.
Develop and execute an integrated multi-channel brand and marketing plan for Latin America (TV, radio, print, direct mail and digital media) and ensure alignment with the overall business strategy.
Manage the high-level relationship with our partner agencies: creative, media, PR, research and branding, including:
Support the Marketing Managers in developing solid strategies, winning creative and effective media plans.
Negotiate contracts and fees with agencies, aiming to maintain the highest value for money, and create win-win relationship with our agency partners.
Partner with other teams within the company to allow for optimal business management. Jointly identify opportunities for supplier, affiliates or other third-party promotion and business-building activities.
Analytics: measure, analyze and communicate the effectiveness and return on investment of all marketing campaigns and programs. This includes forecasting, testing, tracking, monitoring, analyzing and reporting of results.
Research: continuously devise and conduct market research to define target market, obtain competitive analysis, measure top-of-mind awareness and consumer loyalty in Latin America, and gain insights on industry trends and unmet consumer needs and to allow benchmarking across countries and regions.
Continuously benchmark and monitor competitor marketing actions and best practices across markets and products.
Work closely with the merchandising and product supply teams to create and execute an annual merchandising calendar.
Liaise with marketing groups from other Expedia businesses to share and implement best practices.
Manage the day-to-day activities of the marketing team, ensuring that there is clear direction and prioritization in line with the overall business goals
Develop HR and career planning for team individuals
Maintain a strong presence in each of the key markets of the region, both by personal interaction, and by creating the appropriate team structure and support in each of our in-market offices (Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Mexico City).
From time to time, the Marketing Director will be required to represent the General Manager in internal and external functions.
Job Requirements / Minimum Qualifications:
The candidate must have:
Four-year undergraduate degree in engineering, marketing or business administration; MBA or other post-graduate degree in a related field. An MBA from a top university a significant plus.
12-15 years of successful marketing experience, most preferably with expertise in e-commerce or other forms of business-to-consumer digital retail. A mix of experience on the client side, an agency and a media outlet is a very significant plus. Some consulting experience in a top firm international a plus.
Extensive experience in P&L management, with a clear understanding of levers that affect financial reporting. Basic accounting knowledge a must.
Knowledge of media and advertising research, including ad tracking tools and ROI measurement.
Experience across multimedia platforms, TV and online planning / buying is essential.
Experience in e-commerce analytics, including research and testing.
Track record of productive relationships with a variety of agencies (creative, media, PR, branding, etc.), including contract and fee negotiations, and building of ad-hoc agency capabilities. History of continual output of high quality 360° marketing programs.
Solid experience building, developing and motivating small but highly efficient teams of young, intelligent, driven professionals.
100% trilingual in English, Portuguese and Spanish, in both written and oral communication.
Outstanding communicator both verbally and in writing. Significant experience creating sophisticated, powerful yet concise reports. Proven effectiveness in delivering high-quality presentations. Persuasive through data-driven, empathic consensus building.
